Physical Fitness and the Music Industry

Today marks day 46 of my P90X3 routine from Beach Body.  It has not been an easy journey but failure is not an option in my quest for better health and physical fitness.  Now, why am I blogging about my fitness routine on a music blog site?  A healthy body will assist in creating the best music possible that’s why!
All of my music students out there will recount every time their professor told them to use their abdominals to assist with air support.  Yes, a six-pack will not make you play better but when you are doing a 4-hour gig and have to sing or play an F6 for 16 counts it kind of helps.  Think about the out of shape percussionist that have to carry a bass drum for an entire parade?  So, am I starting to make any sense so far?  Check out this study on the affects of physical fitness on music performance conducted by researchers.
On the entertainment side of music physical fitness is a huge factor in building a marketable appearance in the industry.  We hear and see music superstars talk about how important it is to “be comfortable in your skin” everyday. The harsh reality is that most executives will turn down an artist just because of the way they look and marketability.  With America taking more steps towards cutting obesity the industry will do their part in putting out artists who they believe will have the biggest influence on the public.

I may not be where I want to be but I am well on my way thanks to Tony Horton and P90X3. If you are interested in joining me on this journey click here and check out what is available for you.  In the meantime stay healthy, be creative, and continue to live the music in a positive light!

Live the Music. . .
