Super Bowl Overview

Hey readers! Last night's game was definitely a night to remember. The "historic" game was filled with record breaking moments, surprises, and excitement.  Okay, I can not go on any more about how good the game was.  Don't get me wrong, the game was definitely something special but as I watched in the 4th quarter I couldn't help but pay attention to this overwhelming feeling I had in my stomach.  Has anyone noticed that the past few years has produced picture perfect Super Bowl games that went down in history?  How come the past couple Super Bowls has ended so dramatically with close scores?  I know that I promised to speak on the Halftime Show and I will get to that later this week but, I would like for you to think about a few things I noticed last night.

Fixed Games???

Yeah, I just asked the golden question.  Do you believe that last night's game and the past Super Bowls were fixed for ratings and advertisement?  While that question marinates in your mind I want you to think about everything that is at stake during the most watched program of the year.

  • Television Ads

This year companies paid a breath taking $4,000,000 to advertise their products for just 30 seconds. Do you understand how crazy this sounds?  Not only do you have to pay the NFL Association money to advertise but you also have to have enough money to produce such a high quality video presentation for millions of potential customers! If I was CEO of Pepsi I would want the NFL to GUARANTEE over a certain number of people to watch my commercial if I was paying that amount. As commissioner of the NFL, I would do whatever I can to keep viewers watching throughout the entire game for the purpose of watching these ads. Check out the ratings from last light's game.

  • Football Records

Last night I saw a few records broken that left me scratching me head.  How in the hell do you allow a man to return a kick-off right up the middle through so many defenders from deep in the end zone? When Jacoby Jones ran for the record breaking touchdown he created a frenzy in the stands and around the country but, do you really think something like that would have happened in a regular season game?  With so many focused players participating in the biggest game of their lives do you really think there is no coincidence that this embarrassing play would take place during that game? I believe it was a fixed play to stir up some excitement for those that may have gotten tired or bored during the game.  As long as I have been watching football, I have never made it through a whole game unless it was my team that was winning.

  • "Comeback Kids"
Look at the scores of all the Super Bowls over the years.  What ever happened to teams completely destroying their opponents in battle? It looks like last night should have belonged to the Ravens. Yes, I am aware that the Ravens did win after all but, there should have been no contest to the powerhouse team.  You mean to tell me that a 34 minute power outage isn't the cause of the 49ers surge in the second half?  Ray Charles could see from inside his coffin that there was something fishy with the events that unfolded after halftime.

  • Personal Side Stories
What were the odds of those coaches facing each other at the Super Bowl of all games? I didn't have to watch the NFC championship to believe that the 49ers' victory was handed to them. If I wanted to add extra hype to the Super Bowl I would definitely worked the playoffs for those two brothers to face each other. The most recent Super Bowls have always had some gripping story that made you want to watch and root for the hero.  In 2008, we all rooted for Eli Manning to prove to the world that he was not living under his older brother's, Payton, shadow.  The previous year, we saw history take place as not only did a black coach win the Super Bowl but, two black coaches went head to head. Last year's Super Bowl brought a rematch that made us all wonder if the Patriots could redeem themselves for their loss against the Giants four years prior.  This year gave us a chance to witness Ray Lewis retire as a champion.  Consider this, if Dan Marino had played in his prime today, do you believe he would have gotten a Super Bowl ring?

So with all this said, have you thought about your answer to my question?  Do you think last night's game and past games have been fixed in some way? I, without a shadow of a doubt, believe that there is something fishy going on in all of sports now a days. Can you blame greedy businessmen for doing all that they can to make money in this economy?

Think about everything that goes on behind the scenes and do not get sucked into the extreme commercialism that surrounds this game every year.  Its a little sad when you think about the men who work so hard to make a living doing what they love to do but are told to hold back their talents in order to make the games more "interesting." Does this mean that professional football players sell their soul to the very same "Devil" that pop stars do in order to achieve money and fame?  Hmm. . . .
